This image shows steerage emigrants in their quarters on the between deck of the Norwegian emigrant ship Superior just before the departure from Christiania for Quebec in 1866. The Superior was built 1857 at Bath, Maine, U.S.A. and was launched under the name Augustus. The original engraving measures ca. 27 x 18 cm. and was printed in the Norwegian magazine "Norsk Folkeblad" 1866. The magazine was edited by the famous Norwegian poet Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson.
