Ottawa - Manitoban

Allan Line steamship built 1865 at Birkenhead by Laird Bros for the British Colonial SS Co. Acquired by Allan Line 1868. Renamed Manitoban 1872. On this image the ship is seen departing Christiania (Oslo) with emigrants in 1866 with. The original engraving measures ca. 18 x 11 cm. and was printed in the Norwegian magazine "Norsk Folkeblad" 1866. The magazine was edited by the famous Norwegian poet Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson.
