This photograph shows the two former Hamburg America Line steamships "Rhenania (1)" and "Normannia (2)" side by side at Le Havre after they were taken over by the C.G.T. and renamed "Saint Simon" and "L`Aquitane". A very rare view. This Normannia (2) was built 1890 at Glasgow by Fairfield Shipbuilding & Eng. Co. Ltd. for the Hamburg America Line. She was sold to C.G.T. and renamed L`Aquitane 1899. The "Rhenania (1)" was built 1873 at Greenock by Caird & Co. for the Hamburg America Line. She was purchased by C.G.T. in 1878 and renamed Saint Simon. The ship made some occasional voyages with emigrants and other passengers between Havre and New York for the French Line. It was mainly used for the West Indies service between Havre - Bordeaux - Colon. For more ship info please see: S/S Normannia (2) and S/S Rhenania (1).
