La Bourgogne

French Line steamship built 1885 at La Seyne, on the Mediterranean by Sociètè des Forges. This ship ran with emigrants and other passengers between Havre and New York for the French Line. On this picture she is seen as originally fitted with 4 masts. In 1897/98 she was rebuilt and her masts were reduced to 2. On July 4th 1898 the ship collided with the Cromartyshire off Cape Sable with the loss of about 550 lives. This image is from an old engraving mesuring ca. 31 c 23 cm.
