This steamship was built 1872 at Glasgow by Caird & Co. for the Hamburg America Line (Hamburg - West Indies route) as the Franconia. The "Franconia" was a sister of the "Rhenania (1). In 1876 she collided with the "Strathclyde", with the loss of 38 lives. Purchased by C.G.T. (French Line) 1878 and renamed Olinde Rodrigues. The ship made some occasional voyages with emigrants and other passengers between Havre and New York for the French Line. It was mainly used for the West Indies service between Havre - Bordeaux - Colon. In 1915 she was sold for scrapping. This image is from an old postcard.
