Hamburg America Line steamship built 1856 at Greenock by Caird & Co. Originally launched as the "Petropolis" for Hamburg-Brasilianische Oct. 30, 1856, but was taken over by HAPAG the same year and renamed. Taken over by the Dominion Line in 1876, name remained the same. On Feb. 6, 1877 she was destroyed by fire. For more ship history see: S/S Bavaria
