Schiller

Hamburg America Line steamship built 1873 at Glasgow by Robert Napier & Sons for the Adler Line. Taken over by HAPAG in 1875 but was wrecked on Retarrier Reef, Scilly Isles on May 7, just before officially taken over by HAPAG. 312 of the 355 person aboard died in the accident. The Schiller was a sister of the Goethe, which was also taken over by HAPAG from the Adler Line. For more ship history see: S/S Schiller
