Launched 1888 at Glasgow by J. G. Thomson Co. as the City of New York for the Inman Line. Taken over by the American Line 1893, renamed New York. In WW1 she served as transport ship and went under the name USS Plattsburg. As seen on this photo she was painted in camouflage colors. Old photo postcard. For more ship history see: S/S New York
