White Star Line steamship built 1881 at Belfast by Harland & Wolff. The Coptic was chartered to the Occidental & Oriental Co. for their San Francisco - Yokohama - Hong Kong service. This image is from an old photograph and shows the ship at Hong Kong in February 1898 after she had been badly crushed by a typhoon in mid-ocean a few days after departing San Francisco (Capt. Sealby) on way from San Francisco to the Orient. For more ship history see: S/S Coptic
