White Star Line steamship built 1881 at Belfast by Harland & Wolff. The Coptic was built as a sister of the Arabic (1), Ionic (1) and Doric (1). On November 16th, 1881 she sailed on her maiden voyage from Liverpool to New York, and made 2 round voyages on this service. This ship was originally built for the Occidental & Oriental's San Francisco - Yokohama - Hong Kong service, and started on that service in 1882. In 1884 she was used for the Liverpool - New Zeeland service. Returned to Occidental & Oriental in 1895. In 1906 she was sold to the Pacific Mail Line and renamed "Persia". Sold to Toyo Kisen Kaisha and renamed "Perisia Maru" 1915. Scrapped 1926. This image is from an old photograph. For more ship history see: S/S Coptic
