Elbe

Norddeutscher Lloyd steamship built 1881 at Glasgow by John Elder & Co. This ship sailed with emigrants and other passengers between Bremen and New York. This image is from an old photo and shows the ship with black funnels. She originally had her funnels colored buff. The common color for NDL ships were black funnels, but express steamers had buff funnles. As the Elbe are shown with black funnels on this picture it indicates she was not any longer consideres an express steamer. For more ship history see: S/S Elbe
